About Us

BAWA* is a neighborhood-based arts group dedicated to fostering creativity and expression in the beautiful Brookland neighborhood of northeast DC.

Founded in 2003, BAWA* hosted a monthly poetry series for nearly 7 years until we lost our space.  In addition, BAWA* members created 2 culture “zines”:  “Bark!” and “Bark Two” which featured the art and writing of many of its members.

BAWA* members have found a new reading space at the Center for Poetic Thought (716 Monroe St, NE, Studio 25 in the Brookland Artswalk) where we will be able to hold monthly poetry readings and perhaps a few writing workshops during the summer Farmer’s Market.
